Week 2 Notices

Dear Parents,

I hope you all had an enjoyable long weekend.

There is no swimming this week. Swimming Sports is next Monday. We head straight down to the pools after the roll and the first race should start at 9:30. More information about which races your child will be in will be coming home later in the week.

Homework will be starting this week. Your child will bring home their homework folder containing a copy of this letter and their maths homework. For Year 4s homework should take no more than 20 minutes a night.

Reading - each night your child will bring home a reading book. It may be a book containing one story which they can read to you. If they are finding it difficult, or are tired, you need only read half the book, or read it to your child. If the book they bring home is a school journal containing multiple stories, articles and poems, you only need to read one section per night.

Maths - Your child will bring home a maths sheet relevant to the maths number knowledge stage they are on. On Friday they will have a short timed ‘test’. The focus for this homework activity is on instant recall of number knowledge facts rather than knowing how to work out the answers (strategy).
Also in your child’s Homework Folder is a sheet that shows all the knowledge associated with the Knowledge Stage that they are currently learning

In class this week we will be looking at spelling with the aim of sending home spelling lists for homework next week.

Kapahaka will be taking place for the Year 4s on Wednesdays at 12:20. Kapahaka will take place for about an hour - half of which is during lesson time, the other half during lunch and playtime. Students will be able to eat their lunch straight after Kapahaka. Please let me know if you would like your child to take part, or would prefer them not to.

Drama is being offered to Year 3 and 4 students this year. A drama teacher will be coming to take the classes which take place on Wednesdays from 10:50 until 11:55. This is morning tea eating time and playtime, plus half an hour of lesson time. There will be a charge for these lessons, a note should be coming home this week about them.

Don’t forget the School Picnic is this Thursday at 5:30 on the school field. It would be lovely to see lots of you there.

Friday 19th February is Art Deco Day. We will be having a dress up day at school. I look forward to seeing everyone in their best Art Deco clothing.

Kind regards

Karen Duligall
